New Yorkers planning a visit to the 9/11 Museum will soon have more opportunities to enter for free. Starting in October 2026, a newly funded program will offer free access every Sunday afternoon to people who live or study in New York State.

Governor Kathy Hochul announced $2.2 million in state support for the expansion, which will run for one year. The funding builds on New York First Sundays, an initiative originally supported by the Andrew Carnegie Foundation that provides free admission once a month. Read the state announcement.

The change creates more opportunities for residents and students to explore the museum’s account of September 11 and its lasting impact. For families with younger generations who have no personal memory of the attacks, a visit can provide a setting for learning, questions, and reflection.
